Androgala!!!
Taddddaaaaaaaaaaa........ I have reached it!! cant believe that i have made the cut so early its my 25th post.... I thought i will reach this mark by early febraury but have managed to do this in january itself.. i thank all my blogsphere readers & special readers & all their comments & unlike the previous blog which was centered on the sports & entertainment this time i have managed to cover more interesting things which happened in my life...
Ok i was reserving this topic for the 50th post but thought otherwise today.. so i have decided to rewind the college days again.. for this cricket tournament has been such a memorable one.. more memorable to me for i was the only person to play in two different teams,where every other player played for a single team only..
First i will get on with the matches in my class,before going into the my team details an insight into the tournament, the tournament last year was called as androgala.. the name of the tournament varies every year its open to all the hostel students(1st,2nd,3rd &4th years) for day scholars its restricted to the final years alone.. for 3 yrs all the day scholars including me had been spectators untill we had our chance..the matches will be flood light matches all matches will start at around 5.00 in the evening and will go on long into the night with a commentary,mostly by any one of the Hostellers,The commentary part happens to be the best part cause everybody playing in the match will be teased beyond the wildest imaginations.. Cant forget the ottals(teasings) i got!!!
so much for the match format,the rules were simple the game contained 8 over apiece in each innings with 8 members in team.. The match proceeds with a tennis ball which is very light to hit and the bat will be very light too that makes the concept of boundaries even more challenging, ball will be hurled at the batsmen like they are shot from a cannon.. spotting a tennis ball in the floodlight is challenging too.. so much for the game format i will proceed now to the teams from my class
My class we had an overwhelming participation almost all the boys played in it.. 3 teams from our class took part yes all three teams lost.. but the fun we had in each practice match was awesome,i will write about the three major teams in our class..
Pulla poochi(meaning very puny): yes its a team name, one thing i forgot to tell all teams should have a name, we had a great set of comic names like this in the entire tournament.. This pulla poochi team captain was Ramkumar i guess, he is a good bowler with sheer pace the team relied more on his bowling but the team superstar was packiaraj popularly called as Gym Packi a.k.a superman(Thanks to Enigma).. i did not see the match they played but heard that they were ripped apart in commentary in the match..
Micham Meedhi(Meaning remnants): This team was picked up from the remaining members of the class, those who were left out from the other 2 teams..but this team got a win in their first match unlike us we lost in the first match..This team comprised of some real good players like TG..KD..Praveen..Daddy Srikanth(He told he will join in my team but he did the other thing)..Santhosh..RMN(He thinks he plays good cricket)..then they had a wizard spinner in shyam who challenged shane warne's googly by producing the delivery called as Gujili(The Wrong "Wrong Un"), too bad the ball turned so much that batsmen had no chance of playing @ it..i saw shyam bowl as much as 14 balls in a over where in the match was ultimately over in that over in their second round match.. Great bowling shyam..
Kuruvi Kooch Kooch(Thats our team.. Meaning sparrow's cuckoo sound):
Weird name eh?? it was coined by our senior player in the team viz Vignesh.E

Thats my team, we were the first team to register for the matches, we were initially promised that we would play against a first year team, thinking that we are ambitiously preparing for a full stretch of 2 weeks or so, the practice matches were so much fun then came the D day i became really nervous when we first saw the game and most of us nervous to take the centre stage.. then i went in for the toss only to find out that we are not up against a BE first year but against a ME first year.. Hell!! i lost the toss they took the batting option..our bowling was rusty we were hammered for 70 odd runs in 8 overs..thanks to some good keeping by Vignesh.R..
Then we talked during the break we clearly knew that we had no chance of winning, the guys playing against were in enormous sizes, we thought of defending the wickets atleast, initially We started flashily after dismissal of dhas in over # 2 we went to the defensive mode..Thanks to great mokkai(Tamil for boring) partnership between EV & SV we were able to defend the wickets, i made a challenge to the opposition team on mike "Get us out if u can??" They bowled like hell but we survived.. but all in all it was a great match to remember..
VVVS A & B: The second match was a surprise i did not expect to play in that match, but all of sudden got a call on saturday to play in the VVVS B(for those who dont know what VVVS is here goes Varutha Padatha Veera Valibar Sangam), the match took place on sunday March 19th.. These VVVS teams are from ECE A section, i was the registered VVVS member thanks to Karthick,Jo n Balz.. i got a call from Jo to play in that match for VVVS B .. so that the match will be fun..
The match was slated @ 6.30 in the morning, so i all went there with aravind by 5.30 itself VVVS B was a team weaker than my own KKK cricket team.. VVVS A team was pretty strong and they had won their first round match even in a stronger fashion.. The match started once again we lost the toss and VVVS A batted we gave 40 odd runs in 2 overs itself, then came the comeback with in the penultimate over we sent the VVVS A packing to pavilion for 70 runs.. thanks to the gr8 bowling of Man of the Match Marudhu..Highlight being Karthick getting bowled after showing too much gimmicks before entering the pitch.. he was out golden duck..
Then began our chase , it started horribly we lost out 3 wickets in 2 overs, then myself & Marudhu went to the middle and decided to blank the bowlers by playing the test match style..inspite of all sledging here also we challenged the bowlers who tried their very best in getting us out, it was one of my memorable innings since i was dogged not to lose my wicket..it was a good partnership where in we steered the ship to safety.. We lost only four wickets & i was unbeaten till the end.. That's the end of a great match..
But among the so much fun one thing i did not like(infact all the day scholars) was the politics involved against day scholars, all of us were surprised to see the demarcation between the day scholars and hostellers, no day scholar team proceeded much further in the tournament.. But this kind of thing has been happening for the past 3 years and am sure it will continue .. but i do hope some day.. one day scholar team will pull off a stunt soon enough..i am not supporting the day scholars blindly here but i want the match to be played fair & square..but excluding the politics factor the series was really great and it was really an Androgala!!!
