Turn Coat!!!

i did not want to post today cause i wanted to give readers more time to read my sherlock blog which i done previously,but the recent events had forced me to write this one i cant resist blogging today so readers who havent read the sherlock blog,if possible read that one also!!

Turn coat most of the people might have known this game it is conducted in almost every major cultural festivals in colleges, the game is simple the person will be given a topic on that he will have to speak supporting on that after a particular time lapse he will have to contradict or oppose what he said previously,simple as that some events may refine it to a flip round where in the person has to support and contradict whenever the judges say flip.. so today am gonna do a normal turn coat.. no time limits..the topic happens to be orkut!!! oh yeah!! here we go..

>>> For Orkut:
Orkut is an online social networking community run by google its named after its founder Orkut Buyokketen,people say some weird stories saying that he had built that network to find his long last girl friend but the integrity has not been verified yet.

There are more social networking websites available but the orkut happens to be enjoying undisputed leadership presently mainly because of the innovative features it provides and the scrap book concept, it was a real cool feature and was a run away hit and as the number of users grew in number the features grew as well,presently videos can also be added to the person's profile so that he can share it with this friends.

Through orkut one can find their LKG,UKG friends even,yeah they surely will be in orkut and orkut allows the user to prioritize his/her friends by marking best friend,good friend,friend,Acquaintances and never met category so that user can have ease in maintaining his friend list

The other best part of the orkut happens to be communities, it allows persons having same mindsets and thoughts to share their ideas and develop new friendship, then communities are created for exams like CAT,GRE,UPSC so that the persons aspiring for it can join them and can interact with the persons who might have cracked the exam if he happens to be in the same community, plus one can have a regional community or a community of his/her college class so that even after departing from the college through the community they can maintain their bond.

Further more each member can become fans of any of the friends in his/her list and can also evaluate whether his/her friend is "Trustworthy", "Cool", "Sexy" on a scale of 1 to 3(as shown by icons) and each member can also customize his/her profile preferences and can restrict information that appear on their profile from their friends and/or others (not on the friends list). The highlight feature is where any member can add any other member on Orkut to his/her "Crush List" and both of them will be informed only when both parties have added each other to their "Crush List" and friends can also say about his/her friend to others by writing testimonials.

Personally i had a good time with orkut and my scrap went from 0-1000 in no time, now the frenzy has some what subsided after my colls had ended and i enjoyed the communities like ebook sharing and sports communities and i visit orkut atleast once in a day.

The community scandal was the first of the many to hit orkut's smooth voyage,we all indian fans can be familiar with the name of a community viz "We hate India" created by some pakistani people though issue was escalated very much despite the trying indian users trying to report the community as bogus,the community continues to exist so our indians have created one counterattack saying "We hate those who hate India" how about that?

Then the privacy issue was the biggest factor,the fact that anyone can view anyone's scrapbook and profile had created so many problems till date,anyone can exploit the personal details in the profile such as address & phone # quite a few issues are raised now and then

Spammer's playground once it was, spammers continue to send spam mail to everyone's scrap book of some junk communities and some of them tried to some malicious data to other user's scrap book though orkut has fixed issue by bringing a word verification presently but experts believe its still not safe

Then the controversy of bugs and worms found,last year a bug(infact a worm) named MW.orc was reported the worm steals users' banking details, usernames and passwords by propagating through Orkut. The attack was triggered as users launched an executable file disguised as a JPEG file. thats one of many worms being reported in orkut till date.

Now the recent controversies in which a school girl in delhi had been made to look like a sex worker in orkut by a webpage containing some obscene photographs and also contained the contact info of the girl including her resident address and phone # and her family had received obscene calls of late and a case has been filed,another one happens to be the case of the airhostess whose profile was hosted by some one in a obscene manner and she too faced the same problems like that

Many feel that the orkut wastes the precious times of many teenagers who often spend endless nights manipulating their profiles so to attract their friends and crushes,instead of that they could do many other things which are more useful to them . thats the general opinion of many people now the term orkutting is used in the same context like googling & wiking which intrinsically indicate the fact that nearly everyone is in orkut these days,it has become more than a necessity and pass time people feel!!

One more fact brazil is the leading orkut user in the world with about nearly 50% of the population in orkut,followed by US and INDIA with 15 & 13 % but 13% of india is good enough number compared to the 50% of brazil cause lets dont forget that we are the second highest in population!! Orkut frenzy in india now!!

So time for verdict, there should be one right? every thing in the world has its own advantages and disadvantages just for a few hiccups we should not waste a wonderful tool like orkut,like we all know its a great tool to keep in touch with our friends, its upto us to make sure that none of the sideeffects mentioned should in anyway affect us, we should not blame orkut for this it has nothing to do with this, which should blame the users who are manipulating it in the wrong way!! they will be always there but lets keep an eye on them..Girls reading this please make sure you dont display many of your photos online cause this happens to be the age of digital morphing,anyone can morph with the great tools available presently and please dont give sensitive information like address and phone no online since its a open network,so lets be safe and lets orkut with fun!!

One more issue to be mentioned before signing off, its in my back of my mind for the past 3 days, the verdict on cauvery issue and its aftermath i was shocked to see the way in which karnataka government reciprocated to the verdict,if they are not satisfied they could given a statement and appealed against it,which did not happen instead of that happens the protests!! i am really worried about my friends back in bangalore because the karnataka people(its the same case like orkut not everyone can be blamed but most of them) look @ tamilians as if they look at a pakistani, we are all part of the same country but the tension between the states is hyper now!! the same thing happened in mullai periyar issue with kerala also seems people no longer care about the judiciary, protests everywhere now UP is a hot place as well..I dont know where india is heading to??

But TN people never have done a thing like this as the karnataka people did,TN ppl never had hurt anyone from that place nor did they protest and they have such courtesy to others but others when will they understand?? The one thing i noticed is that if a national issue between two states if its going this hyper think of the Indo-Pak situation, I dont think we will have any solution to that!! hoping that situation improves soon in bangalore(All i can do is that only) !! untill next time!! cheers!!
